Brian Hardie

Director

I cannot imagine a life without painting, music, literature, dance...the "arts." Clearly, the arts have connected humanity across time and I believe they will help us cope in a future threatened with environmental and political conflict. To give peace a chance I believe we must give art a chance. Problem solving first begins with imagination.

I live in the village of Canada, a land of relative prosperity with a vastness of natural resources, education, museums, peace and opportunity. This existence is uncommon. I have learned that sharing with others benefits me in countless ways. Children remind me constantly to "colour outside the lines." I have discovered that the sea of "need" and "poverty" is deep and cold. This is the age of change. Now more than ever the message is clear that humanity, regardless of political borders, must cooperate and share more otherwise conflicts will become more frequent and dangerous. Communities of plenty must share more with those in desperate need. Let's start with art. Give the artists a chance to create change and forge a new path of shared prosperity. The child artist today is tomorrow's visionary...the brush, violin, poem will be their weapon.
